DOES URA FIX SIDEWALKS? Yes, for decades the URA (old & new) has set aside annual new monies ($50K-150K/yr., as available) to help fix our sidewalks.
WHAT PERCENT OF DOLLARS ARE PAID? -URA keeps a “waitlist”-one block at a time. Generally, they pay 90% of a “regular” repair, and 50% to reopen “vaulted” sidewalks (i.e. with a nice storefront underneath).
NOW? In recent years, Karen Byrnes & URA “claim” they have “little or no money” for regular repairs…NOTHING for “vaulted” sidewalks with Victorian storefronts underneath.
HOW BAD IS IT? Walk around commercial district. MANY (like my Maley Block, Beautiful Things on Broadway, Party Palace, and more) have DANGEROUS sidewalks that are leaking into our basements.
Though we ALL pay 60% extra taxes to URA (see URA property tax scam) we get NO help at all on sidewalks…. nor will we for 3-4 years or more after this WASTE OF $450K at Phoenix.
SHOW ME THE $450-500K SIDEWALK “SCAM” AT PHOENIX BUILDING?
a) The BSB disbursements page (link below) shows that the URA/BSB paid at least $20K in 2007 for 50% of cost for ALL NEW FRONT SIDEWALKS AT PHOENIX THEN.
b) This total re-do was under the URA “sidewalk repair program”.
c) The Contract Page (link below) is the contract by BSB to pay REPAIRS (only) from BSB caused DAMAGE (only)…UNDER THE SIDEWALK REPAIR PROGRAM (only).
d) In recent years, Karen Byrnes & URA “declared” they “owed” Phoenix a $450K new sidewalk…because of “reopening” vaulted to access fancy storefronts underneath.
e) The third page shows the $450K “job” (RIGHT NOW) redoing the Phoenix sidewalks.
f) There are NO “Victorian” storefronts down there…and NO need to redo ANYTHING.
g) The WASTE of $450K also uses up YEARS of annual sidewalk monies for folks in need. |
